Dear SJCS Parents & Family,
We hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas break and that everyone is safe, healthy, and happy.
Unfortunately, as I am sure you are aware, COVID-19 rates continue to increase and our current Lowndes County numbers are almost back to where they were over the summer surge. After prayerful consideration and discussion, SJCS will begin the first week of the second semester of school with 100% virtual learning. Teachers will report on Monday, January 4 to prepare take-home packets for students in PK-3rd grade and to digitize materials needed for students in 4th - 8th grades. All students will start back to school virtually on Tuesday, January 5. Reopening virtually will allow more time to identify COVID-19 cases or exposures among students, faculty, and staff that may have occurred during the Christmas break.
For grades PK - 3rd, parents will need to pick up their student's packet after 4:00 pm on Monday, January 4. This packet will accompany virtual instruction over the next four days. In addition to completing the packets, PK - 3rd-grade students will also have a schedule to join their teacher for instruction on Google Meet. This schedule will be included in your packet. If students are not able to attend a particular live instruction, recordings will be available.
For grades 4th - 8th, students will attend class via their individual teacher’s Google Classroom. The virtual class schedule will be shared with students on Monday, January 4, and will also be posted to the school website.
Please understand that it was our goal to start the new semester with in-person classes as soon as possible. We are taking this preventative action to protect the health, safety, and well-being of all of our Eagles.
Our current plan is to return to in-person instruction on Monday, January 11 and we are continuing to monitor the situation. We will send out an update, via email, text, and social media on Thursday, January 7 to provide further direction and details for the upcoming school week.
Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding as we work through these current challenges. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out.
