It’s summer, time to catch up on your summer reading – and listening! Whether it’s a family road trip or time relaxing pool or beachside, a podcast is a great way to relax, learn something new and be entertained. I don’t know about you, but sometimes listening to a podcast in the car or within earshot of my kids can be a little awkward depending on the subject.
Here is a list of family friendly podcasts that are appropriate for co-listening and will be fun for parents to listen to, too.
*Disclaimer: Although these are family friendly, some are better suited for teenagers or older children. Please use your discretion.
For Teenage Girls
This podcast is made by teens for teens and features interviews with women and those who work and live with women. The teens discuss topics like poetry, the fear of failure, race, finding your people and more.
Binge Mode: Harry Potter
OMG! My 7-year-old is going to flip out when I tell him about this! The Ringer is all about recapping elements of pop culture, and this one focuses on Harry Potter. It is a deep dive into all things wizarding. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, check out Ringer’s podcast series Binge Mode: Game of Thrones, too.
Wow in the World
NPR does it again with another amazing podcast that you didn’t know you needed in your life. Listen to kid-friendly news of the week with amazing information your kids will soak up like “How long would it take to get to the closest star outside of our solar system?”
But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids
I think all parents have a story about their child always asking why….to everything….at length. Well now you can hit the pause button on answering the questions yourself and let the podcast do all of the work. What’s cool is the questions are sourced form actual kids (your kid can submit some, too!).
TED Talks: Kids and Family
It was only a matter of time when TED Talks would spinoff and luck for us they have created one focused on kids and their parents. They cover a variety of topics like female superheroes, lying, underwater caves, where camels came from and many many more. You and your kids will learn some pretty amazing things listening to this podcast.
Stuff You Should Know
This podcast has been around for many many many episodes, however, most of the topics they cover like How Tsunamis Work, Was There a King Arthur and How Pinball Works are appropriate for the entire family. Plus, it’s pretty cool knowledge to pull out and impress your friends at a party.
Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl
My husband cannot stand listening to kids songs. Kidz Bop – nope. Disney songs – double nope. This each playlist in this podcast includes two hours of songs for the family – and they aren’t just Ring Around the Rosey or Elsa’s Let it Go.
So there you have it. Click the links to download these podcasts to help you get through a family road trip, summer beach vacations, sports practices or whenever you need to fill the time with the kids.
